We needed a local company, with an international outlook and the right qualifications and expertise to build us a new platform to suit our 24-hour, global operation.

AlphaGalileo

The Challenge

A platform that had outgrown itself.

AlphaGalileo is a trusted, independent business-to-business platform serving the global research and media communities — connecting scientific institutions, universities, and research organisations with journalists and media professionals around the world. With over 7,000 registered journalists relying on the platform for their work, and tens of millions of research alerts being distributed every year, the stakes for reliability and performance are high.

The platform had grown organically over many years, accumulating a complex layer of add-ons and workarounds that made it increasingly difficult to manage, maintain, and scale. What had started as a functional system had become a constraint — holding back a business that had outgrown it significantly.

AlphaGalileo needed a rebuild that could match the scale and pace of their 24-hour, global operation — without disrupting the thousands of journalists and institutions depending on it every day.

The Solution

Built right, from the ground up.

Digital Trading worked closely with the AlphaGalileo admin team to understand exactly how the platform was being used and what a new system needed to deliver. Requirements were captured in depth, with interactive mock-ups and wireframes produced so the client could see and respond to what was being built before a line of code was written.

The resulting platform was built from the ground up on a bespoke web system — nimble, user-friendly, and designed to evolve alongside the business without the bolt-ons and workarounds that had plagued the original. The visitor-facing experience was preserved and improved, while the backend was completely replaced with a system the admin team could actually rely on.

Critically, the platform was built to scale — architected from the outset to handle the volume of a global, always-on operation.

The Result

35 million alerts a year — and a partnership still going strong.

AlphaGalileo now distributes over 35 million research alerts every year across a network of more than 7,000 registered journalists and media professionals worldwide — on a platform that is built to handle it.

The ongoing support relationship that followed the initial build has been in place since 2015. Weekly touchpoints keep communication consistent, and issues are handled responsively as they arise. It is the kind of long-term partnership that only develops when the work delivers.

That relationship of trust has led directly to the next chapter — a third version of the platform is now in development, continuing a collaboration that has spanned more than a decade.
